Laurie holds dual citizenship in both the United States and Canada. Daughter
of Hollywood character actor Larry Holden and stage and film actress Adrianne
Ellis, Laurie received her first film role when she was a young child.
While on the set visiting her step-father, director Michael Anderson,
a child actress hired to play Rock Hudson’s daughter in The Martian Chronicles
never made it and Laurie filled in. “All of a sudden, I’m Rock Hudson’s
daughter.” As a teenager, Laurie won The Look of the Year modeling contest
in Toronto.
However, she set her sights on acting and attended UCLA to pursue this
goal and took acting classes from the late Robert Reed of Brady Bunch
fame. She also won the prestigious Natalie Wood Acting award. Laurie has
appeared in various TV shows including Highlander, Murder She Wrote, and
Due South for which she was nominated for a Gemini Award (the Canadian
equivalent to an Emmy) as best guest star in 1996.
Her most visible roles are as Marita Covarrubias on The X-Files, Special
Agent Fox Mulder's latest informant and feisty frontier woman Mary Travis
on The Magnificent Seven.
